One Stitch Beanie (HDC)

This is one of the first crochet patterns I got obsessed with. Christmas 2022, EVERYONE was getting a beanie lol. I’m sharing this pattern with you so you can also gift your loved ones a beanie, from the heart, for this upcoming fall/winter season.

Project time: 3 hours (I crochet kinda slow lol)

Materials:

Abbreviations:

  • Ch = chain

  • Hdc = half double crochet

This pattern is very customizable. The number of starting chains and amount of rows you end up doing will depend on the type of yarn you use, the size of your hook, and the tension of your crocheting. Knowing this, I will be providing the rough dimensions of my beanie for your reference!

The number of chains that you do will determine the length of your beanie and the number of rows that you do will determine the width of your beanie.

Dimensions of the rectangle base of the beanie:

10.5 in (chains) x 18 in (rows)

27 cm (chains) x 46 cm (rows)

The pattern:

Row 1: Make a slipknot, ch 48 (or enough for the ch to measure 11.5 inches (29 cm) — remember this will shrink ).

Row 2: In the second chain from the hook, hdc 47 in each ch. Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Hdc 47 in the back loops only. Ch 1, turn.

Row 4-55: Repeat row 3.

Row 55: Hdc 47 and finish off with a long tail. At this point measure your rectangle, if it is less than 18 inches (46 cm) then add more rows until it measures to 18 inches (46 cm). If it is less than 18 inches (46 cm) then get rid of some of the rows until it measures to the 18 inches (46 cm).

Stitching the beanie together:

Start sewing the side of the beanie together.

Then to cinch up the beanie, you will weave in and out of the top edge of the beanie. Pull the yarn tight and secure by tying a knot. There might be a hole in the center, I like to crisscross the yarn over the center to make an X and pull tight to close it up. Making sure to secure the yarn with multiple knots on the inside of the beanie. (For a visual guide, head over to my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@tr1sarahtops)
